Get To Know Avodah Jewish Service Corps

Get to know Avodah in conversation with Jenny Ackerman Helfand & Cyan Jackson

As part of the Jewish Community Foundation’s learning agenda, we are pleased to offer the first of a series informal virtual gatherings to learn more about local agencies, other Jewish organizations, nonprofits, and community needs. During these mini events, you will get to build relationships with leaders of impactful work across the Greater Washington community, ranging from partner agencies of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, to small community-led initiatives.

Avodah’s mission is to develop lifelong social justice leaders whose work is informed by Jewish values and who inspire the Jewish community to work toward a more just and equitable world.

Avodah’s Jewish Service Corps is an immersive service year program for individuals ages 21-26 who are passionate about social justice and ready to engage in a pluralistic Jewish community.

Corps Members live and learn together in intentional, pluralistic communal home (bayit), while serving the community directly at local organizations including, Bread for the City, HIAS, JUFJ and Tzedek DC, tackling crucial social and economic justice issues.

Corps Members graduate with a year of meaningful, on-the-ground job experience and robust professional and personal development, joining an active 1,500+ alumni network of Jewish social justice professionals and activists who will continue to support their future careers and deepen their ties to the Jewish community.
