InSolidarity: Bridging Differences, Deepen Authentic Relationships and Understanding to Fight Extremism and Hate in All Forms

In 2025, the Jewish Community Foundation in partnership with Greater Washington Community Foundation will launch InSolidarity, an initiative to strengthen community across religious and racial groups in the Greater Washington region in order to fight hate and extremism in all forms This initiative will raise up stories of solidarity and create the space for authentic relationship building, and engage community members (donors, interfaith leaders and nonprofit and coalition leaders) in learning, resource sharing, and celebrating efforts to forge hope and strong alliances towards better outcomes for our region.

Given our nation’s history rooted in anti-Black racism and the rise of antisemitism, Islamophobia, and other forms of hate, Jewish Community Foundation and Greater Washington Community Foundation committed (in 2022) to supporting community solidarity and began a dialogue between interfaith leaders to encourage listening and relationship building between and among different communities in our region. By engaging in meaningful conversations and listening to community leaders, we understand that several key ingredients are necessary to build deep authentic relationships and make available the opportunity for nuanced conversations that lead to understanding, healing, and an ability to pursue shared ambitions.

"To make change you have to be present and in an ongoing relationship with one’s community and with the populations you are working with."
